A refined, stately, or confident chin creates a sense of balance in the face. When the chin is weak, it tends to make the nose look larger, and when prominent, the nose looks smaller. The chin and nose are on opposite sides of a seesaw. An implant brings the chin forward, creating the proper balance and definition to the face. When the chin sits in the appropriate spot, the face is more balanced and natural.

Recovery time for this surgery is approximately one week and is often performed in coordination with other (facial) surgical procedures.
After liposuction under the chin, the implant is placed under the periosteum (a specialized connective tissue that covers bones) of the jawbone, where it holds tight and “shrink-wraps” the implant to the bone. This procedure creates a stronger chin, is relatively straightforward, is also easy to undergo, and produces positive results.

Dr. Ronan addressed this patient’s short chin, lip strain and lack of a defined jawline with slight liposuction of the neck and a chin augmentation to near-normal. He did not pull the chin fully to ‘normal’ in order to maintain the structure and character of her face.

This patient received an isolated neck lift and a chin implant.
For this patient, Dr. Ronan brought the chin out and down to balance out the face and give strength to her jaw. Some liposuction was done as well.
In younger individuals with good skin tone, the fat in this area can be removed with gentle liposuction, and this improves the contour of the neckline. When skin tone is poor, it may take a facelift procedure with liposuction to correct the condition.
